SYNTHESIS OF HEMOGLOBIN
HEMOGLOBIN
Hemoglobin is the iron-containing oxygen-transport metalloprotein in the red blood cells (erythrocytes) of almost all vertebrates.
Synthesis of Hemoglobin
Basically hemoglobin is a quaternary structure of protein, it is mainly composed of two unit.
Heme is the prosthetic group and globin is a protein chain which is consist of two alpha and two beta chain.
Heme + Globin
(Prosthetic Group) (Protein Chain)
Synthesis of Globin
Synthesis of Global in occur in cytosol with the help of Two Alpha and too beta chain Two Alpha chain has 2 gene HBA1 & HBA2 at chromosome number 16 and to be changed has HBB gene at chromosome number 11
Chain Gene Chromosome
2 alpha HBA 1 Number 16
HBA 2 Number 16
2 beta HBB Number 11
Synthesis of Heme
Hemoglobin Synthesis. Hemoglobin synthesis requires the coordinated production of heme and globin. Heme is the prosthetic group that mediates reversible binding of oxygen by hemoglobin.
Heme is mainly consists of a ferrous ion Fe++ and 4 porphyrin ring inside the mitochondria.
Synthesis of heme occur in mitochondria and cytosol by following stepwise process.
